About Justin Patten
I have been a practicing solicitor for over twenty years, and Human Law has been an established firm for much of that time. For years, we handled traditional family and estate disputes, often watching families spend months—and thousands of pounds—locked in painful, open-ended courtroom arguments.
Repeatedly watching these cases taught me a vital lesson: the gridlock you are facing is rarely about the people involved; it is almost always about a lack of clear structure. Most situations that feel chaotic are actually highly predictable once the right legal framework is applied.
When an estate gets stuck, it is usually because boundaries have blurred, roles aren't clearly defined, or external pressure has become overwhelming. Executors and trustees often find themselves carrying immense personal anxiety and unfair blame.
To solve this problem, I recently took the deliberate step to completely revamp Human Law. While the firm has a long heritage, we have intentionally relaunched our entire model—and our new digital platform has just gone live within the last five days. We have stepped away from traditional law setups, reactive hourly billing, and aggressive litigation. Instead, we have re-engineered the practice into a calm, fixed-fee advisory utility designed to step into stressful situations, protect your personal position, and hand you a clear, safe way out.
Published Books
My focus on protecting vulnerable individuals and managing fiduciary risk is supported by two professional books I have authored:
- A Practical Guide to Elderly Law (Law Brief Publishing)
- A Practical Guide to Elderly Fraud (Law Brief Publishing)
These works are grounded in decades of real-world experience helping people navigate complex, highly sensitive family and financial environments.
Where I Can Help You
I work on a transparent, fixed-fee basis to bring stability to five key areas where estates and families frequently face pressure:
- Executor Conflict: Resolving disagreements or lack of cooperation between co-executors so the administration can move forward safely.
- Beneficiary Aggression: Stepping between you and aggressive demands, giving you the space to make objective decisions.
- Stalled Administrations: Providing independent, practical legal strategy when an estate has ground to a halt or lost momentum.
- Trustee Support: Helping trustees navigate complex governance issues and establish clear, safe boundaries for decision-making.
- Powers of Attorney Friction: De-escalating high-stress family disagreements involving attorneys and protecting your regulatory position.
My role is to remove the immediate pressure, restore structural clarity, and help you complete your legal duties safely, predictably, and with absolute peace of mind.
